UIPM 2022 YOUTH U19 & U17 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ITALY SMILES IN LIGNANO SABBIADORO AGAVRILOAIE EIGHTH AND BRONZE FOR U17 TEAM ALLARA FINISHES ELEVENTH

The first Italian medal came at the “Uipm 2022 Youth U19 & U17 World Championships”, the World Youth Championships in Modern Pentathlon being held in Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD). At the ‘Bella Italia Efa Village’, Denis Agavriloaie (P.M. Ippocampo), Matteo Gozzoli (Sweet Team) and Mattia Bouvet (Athlion) won the U17 team bronze medal. Agavriloaie finished eighth in the individual competition with 884 points, Gozzoli (864) fourteenth, and Bouvet (846) sixteenth. The gold went to Egyptian athlete Marwan Allam (900), silver to Hungary’s Adam Peter (898) and bronze to Poland’s Krystian Trepczyk (897). In the team classification, Egypt and France finished ahead of Italy. “It was a very difficult competition, I didn’t think I would reach the podium in a competition of this level. It was really incredible to play with the first ones,” Agavriloaie commented at the end of the race. “It was a great experience, I didn’t expect to get into the final. I am really happy. I can only thank all the people who were there for me and these two wonderful teammates,” said an emotional Gozzoli. “I experienced a unique emotion. I thank the coaches and all the people who came here to support us, and hopefully this is not the only medal!” concluded Bouvet.

 

In the U17 women’s final Annachiara Allara (Scuola Sport) finished in eleventh place with 789 points. The competition was won by the Korean athlete Sumin Shin (832), ahead of the Egyptian athlete Ganah Elgindy (827) and the Hungarian Emma Meszaros (826). In the team classification gold for Egypt, silver for Hungary and bronze for Germany. “I had a lot of fun, my goal was to reach the final and I succeeded,” said the young athlete from Asti, class of 2009. “I came eleventh and I couldn’t ask for more, I am really happy.” 

 

The qualifying rounds of the U19 men’s individual competition also took place today. Matteo Bovenzi (Area 51) and Edoardo Gilioli (Avia Pervia) qualified for the semi-finals, scheduled for Saturday, 10 September. Outside Alessandro Pavolini (Athlion) and Diego Montecchia (Fiamme Oro).

 

Tomorrow, on the sixth day of competition in Lignano Sabbiadoro, the U19 women’s semifinal is scheduled with Elisa Sala (Avia Pervia), Sara Forti (Nice 55) and Teresa Gioia (Pentafiano) competing. The U17 women’s relay will also take place with Giulia Fancelli (Avia Pervia) and Elena Petricca (Pentafiano). Finally, in the afternoon, the Fencing Ranking Round valid for the U19 men’s semifinals: Bovenzi and Gilioli will be on the piste.
