Modern Pentathlon: in Lignano Sabbiadoro the Third Test Event for the New Discipline

The International Modern Pentathlon returns to Italy and looks to the future. There are five days to go until the start of the “Uipm 2022 U19 & U17 World Championships”, scheduled from September 4 to 11, 2022 Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD). The facilities of “Bella Italia EFA Village” will welcome more than 250 young athletes from 33 nations, engaged in the continental review, but not only. After the stages in Ankara (Turkey) and Manila (Philippines), in fact, the Uipm (Union internationale de pentathlon moderne) has chosen Italy for a new field test of the new obstacle discipline candidated to replace Riding after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The young athletes present in Lignano Sabbiadoro will, therefore, be able to try the new fifth discipline for the first time, in a setting dedicated exclusively to them. Joining them, as happened in the two previous test events, will be athletes from World Obstacle (FISO – Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles). Also representatives and athletes from Asd Fiocr- Italian Ocr Federation will be present. Unlike previous tests, the format created by the Uipm for Lignano Sabbiadoro will be slightly different, as it will take place during competition days.

The test is scheduled to take place at the Beach Arena in Lignano Sabbiadoro, September 9 and 10, 2022, in two time slots: from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone will attend a short demonstration by the World Obstacle athletes, after which they will go through a monitored training session before a short final competition. The entire world of International Modern Pentathlon, then, from technicians to managers, will gather in Lignano Sabbiadoro for an important moment of confrontation for the future of the sport and its stay at the Olympics.

This is why we are happy to be able to do a new test during an international ‘youth’ event and precisely in Lignano Sabbiadoro, a location that lends itself very well to such an initiative.”
