The Uipm 2022 Youth U19 & U17 World Championships kick off 4-11 September in Lignano Sabbiadoro

The countdown marks minus one: 250 young athletes from 32 nations have already arrived in Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD), which will host the “Uipm 2022 U19/U17 World Championships”, the World Youth Championships in Modern Pentathlon, from 4th to 11th September 2022.

“We are happy and honoured to host the World Youth Championships in Modern Pentathlon”, said Mayor Laura Giorgi, “An international event that returns to Italy after several years and the fact that Lignano was chosen as the location honours and gratifies us. As Administration we give a lot of importance and space to sport, and we aim to host sporting events not only in summer but also out of season. So we can only endorse events like this and for this we thank Fipm and Uipm”.

The competitions of the “Uipm 2022 U19/U17 World Championships” will take place from 4th to 11th September 2022 at the “Bella Italia Efa Village” facilities. Athletes in the Under-17 category will compete in swimming and laser run, while the Under-19s will compete in fencing, swimming and laser run. In addition to the individual men’s and women’s competitions, men’s, women’s and mixed relays are scheduled. Tomorrow kicks off with the women’s qualification of the Under-17 individual competition. Competing for Italy will be Annachiara Allara (Scuola Sport), Giulia Fancelli (Avia Pervia), Alessia Canto (Avia Pervia) and Valentina Ibba (Avia Pervia). The Under-19 men’s relay with two Italian pairs is also on the programme: Valerio Barletta (Cinque Per Tutti) and Alessandro Pavolini (Athlion), Diego Montecchia (Fiamme Oro) and Edoardo Gilioli (Avia Pervia).

“For this youth event of great level I am sure that, once again, the managers and the accommodation facilities of our region will be up to the height – underlined the president of the Regional CONI Friuli Venezia Giulia Giorgio Brandolin – I am sure that the young people who will arrive in Lignano will have a good time and will bring a beautiful memory. It will be a beautiful event thanks to the commitment of the Italian Federation and of our sports world. I hope it will mark another restart of sport, at world level but also at regional level”.

Also tomorrow, Sunday 4th September, at 6.30 p.m., the opening ceremony will take place at “Bella Italia Efa Village”. Also the godmother of the “Uipm Youth U19 & U17 World Championships”, world champion Elena Micheli, will be welcoming all athletes.
