Uipm 2022 Youth U19 & U17 World Championships: Lithuania Wins The U19 Men’s Relay

Lithuania won the first gold medal at the “Uipm 2022 U19/U17 World Championships”, the World Youth Championships in Modern Pentathlon, which started today in Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD). At the “Bella Italia Efa Village” the competitions started this morning with the Under 19 Men’s Relay: the winner was the Lithuanian pair formed by Ugnius Kabelinskas and Nojus Chmieliauskas, who finished with 1116 points. Silver for France’s Etienne Clergeau and Diego Lavillat with 1106, bronze for Korea’s Jeongwook Son and Dohoon Kang with 1106.

Qualifying took place today in the Under-17 women’s individual competition. At this link it’s possible to find all results.

In the afternoon, the young pentathletes present in Lignano met the Olympic champion Maurizio Damilano who, as Legends of Sport e Salute, answered the curiosities of the youngsters, in particular about the Olympic Games. Finally, the opening ceremony of the event took place. Welcoming all athletes and delegations was the patroness of the “Uipm Youth U19 & U17 World Championships”, world champion Elena Micheli. “I am very proud to be the patroness of these World Championships. I see myself through you, when I was a young girl and had to face my first Youth World Championships, and I understand the emotions you are feeling,” said Micheli. Also present were the Mayor of Lignano Sabbiadoro Laura Giorgi, the President of CONI Friuli Venezia Giulia Giorgio Brandolin, Rob Stull, UIPM Executive Board Member and the President of the Italian Modern Pentathlon Federation Fabrizio Bittner. “We are honoured to host this event, an important occasion that marks the return of the International Modern Pentathlon to Italy. We have done our very best to ensure the success of this World Youth Championship, so that it is not only a sporting event of excellence, but also a great celebration of sport,’ said Bittner.

Tomorrow is the second day of competition in Lignano Sabbiadoro. In the morning there will be the U19 women’s relay, in the afternoon the qualifying round of the U17 men’s individual competition.
